Call for Live Space Weather Forecasts at ESWW 2024
Dear Space Weather Forecasters,
The call is now open for proposals from forecast centres to present a Live Space Weather Forecast at European Space Weather Week (ESWW), 4-8 November 2024, Coimbra. The call closes 30th August (inclusive).
There is an established tradition at ESWW where a different forecast centre presents a Live Space Weather Forecast each day before or after the morning plenary session. It is a great opportunity for forecast centres to publicise their expertise and any communication channels they may use. The live forecast enables attendees to reflect on the real-world impact of space weather and how we, as a community, can improve our communication of these complex concepts to end-users and to the public.
This year the ESWW PC will select four forecast centres. On each day from Tue 5th to Friday 8th November, one of the centres will present a Live Space Weather Forecast (in-person or virtual) in the main theatre. The forecast duration is anticipated to be no more than 5 minutes.
If you are interested in presenting one of the daily forecasts, please send an email to the LOC (loc@esww2024.org) by 30th August (inclusive). Please include the following information:
- Name of Forecast Centre/affiliation
- Name and email address of forecaster who will deliver the live forecast
- In-person or virtual presentation
- The domain you target (e.g. aviation, spacecraft, power grid, GNSS, etc)
- Preferred date of your forecast, if any: Tue 5th – Fri 8th November (we will do our best to accommodate and to align with any related sessions in the schedule)
Please note that this invitation is open to any centre. If more than four centres submit proposals, then the ESWW2024 PC will make a selection.
Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you,
The ESWW LOC and PC
